Metadata Best Practices
If you are reading this, you probably already have an idea of what metadata is. For those that don’t, the simple explanation is metadata is data about data. Metadata is how a digital object may be described using terms that are associated with that object. This association might include embedded information like the “file create time” or the “file name.“ It may also include information in an associated file or “side car” or in a database. In some applications, this may include the creator or author of an item, keywords or even a description (caption). In others, it may include industry specific information such as the color of an item. Even exposure information, the model name and serial number of the camera used to capture the image may be found as metadata.
